Flow Traders is looking for a Graduate Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to start your career at a leading proprietary trading firm with an entrepreneurial and innovative culture at its core. Our data teams work closely with Trading, Technology, and Business teams to build scalable data platforms and deliver high-quality insights that are used across the organization.

The program starts on 1 September 2026.

What you will do

As a Graduate Data Engineer, you will participate in a rotational graduate program and gain hands-on experience across our Data Platform, Core Data, and Business Intelligence teams. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building and maintaining scalable data platforms and pipelines
  • Developing and maintaining high-quality datasets that support trading, risk, and management reporting
  • Creating data products and dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Collaborating closely with engineers, analysts, and business users to translate requirements into robust data solutions
  • Working in small, agile teams with regular stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Taking ownership of tasks and contributing ideas to continuously improve data quality, reliability, and performance

Onboarding & Graduate Program

You will begin your career at Flow Traders with an extensive graduate program at our Headquarters in Amsterdam, where you will learn about our core business, our data landscape, and how data engineering supports a high-performance trading environment. The program features a structured onboarding that covers Flow Traders’ business, systems, and ways of working, along with rotations across different sub-teams within Data Engineering—including Platform, Core Data, and Business Intelligence. You will engage in hands-on project work with real business impact, receive continuous guidance and feedback from experienced engineers and a dedicated mentor, and be encouraged to explore various areas of data engineering to discover your strengths and interests. The program is designed to emphasize both your technical growth and personal development throughout your journey.

What you need to succeed

  • A Master’s degree in a technical or quantitative field such as Computer Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, or similar
  • Strong Python and at least one other (SQL, Java, C++, Rust) skills (required)
  • Demonstrable experience with data analysis or data engineering projects (academic or personal)
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to simplify complex problems
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to learn, take ownership, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

 

What you will do 

  • Analyze existing and upcoming digital assets related regulations (EU and global), assess their impact on our business, and translate them into clear and pragmatic business requirements
  • Act as the primary Compliance contact for our digital assets trading teams, advising on digital assets-specific compliance matters
  • Support and contribute to new digital assets product launches, market expansions, and business development initiatives
  • Engage with regulators, exchanges, trading venues, and other market infrastructure providers active in the digital asset ecosystem
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and coordinate internal and external audits related to digital assets activities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and controls for digital asset trading
  • Deliver compliance training across the organization with a focus on digital asset markets and products
  • Actively foster a strong compliance culture within a fast-growing and innovative digital assets environment

What you need to succeed

  • A university degree in Law, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in compliance, regulatory advisory, or risk within financial markets, with a strong focus on digital assets
  • Extensive knowledge of the regulatory framework applicable to digital asset trading, including (but not limited to):
    • MiCAR
    • Digital assets-specific related EU and global regulatory developments
    • AML, FATF Travel rule
    • MiFID II
  • Proven experience in designing and structuring regulatory frameworks in complex and evolving regulatory environments
  • Ability to act as a trusted advisor to trading teams and to provide pragmatic guidance in ambiguous settings, working closely with Legal and other support / control functions
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, digital asset products, trading strategies, and proprietary trading environment
  • A personality that thrives in a fast-paced, high-performance, and agile culture
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to assess complex situations quickly under time pressure
